The week began with one of the best news items Americans could hear after years of daily doses of depressing reports: that the reviled Usama (or Osama) bin Laden had been killed in a gun battle with the most elite unit of the already elite US Navy SEALs, on loan to the CIA. Incidentally, we might not have known who was responsible if not for Vice-president Big Mouth. Thank God we didn't have Joe Biden around during World War 2; we might all be speaking German and eating rice...or wearing chains. But I digress.
The scumbag who planned the 9-11 attacks was shot and killed while "heroically resisting," his body was positively identified, and after far more care and respect than he deserved his corpse was dumped in the sea, presumably to prevent his followers from having a graveside shrine for recruits to take their blood oath over. What makes it all the more sweet was that there were no American casualties other than a helicopter they had to abandon and destroy, and they didn't have to waste half the neighborhood in the assault on bin Laden's compound in urban Pakistan, either.
Lest anyone feel that we've spent too much attention on finding and finally getting UBL, we should remember that hundreds of thousands of lives have been taken or adversely affected and hundreds of billions of dollars wasted, all because of this lousy excuse for a man. It was directly because of his incitement, planning and financing that two huge towers fell in New York City with the loss of nearly three thousand people, more than a hundred lost at the Pentagon, dozens more in a field in Pennsylvania, thousands of Americans and tens of thousands of natives in Afghanistan and Iraq (would we ever have gone there without the impetus of bin Laden's actions?), the loss of our freedoms due to "security needs" and the overt and subtle changes that resulted from his affect on civilization around the world. All that tragedy justifies, in my mind at least, all the initial celebration on the success of this mission as well as the immense pride in our own armed forces, especially the most elite arms of those forces.
The signing of the order to attack may have been president Obama's singular shining moment in the eyes of American conservatives, reminding us that even a stopped clock is right twice a day (although the White House seems as in the dark as we are on the details). Signing off on the mission, which reportedly took him 16 hours to decide, came as a welcome surprise to most of us, especially since so many indicators, including his choice of advisors, leads us to believe his primary interest isn't the best interest of the American people. But he had barely announced the completion of the mission when Obama deflated us once again, by reminding us that "America is not at war with Islam." He seems to still not understand (or thinks we're too stupid to notice) that Islam is at war with us. They have been working against the voices of freedom (as have progressives and other socialists) openly, surrepticiously, and historically. While there are Muslims who do not join in that jihadist doctrine, those friendly - or at least, neutral - voices are few and far between; most remain utterly silent (although, I can understand why they hesitate to speak up - noisy sheep are often the first to fall to the wolves).
As might be expected, within a day or so after the mission's successful outcome was announced the PR aspect of our military success began falling apart. On the one side you have malAdministration officials telling us the photos of Osama's ventilated corpse would be shown, only to later be contradicted by Obama himself, who refuses to release them, purportedly because showing such photos would "inflame the Muslim world" and "could endanger our troops." Yeah; he seemed not to be so concerned with that possibility a couple of years back when he wanted to release more Abu Ghraib photos, which did indeed incite recruitment of terrorists and attacks at the time.
The question is, does his current stance point to some sort of maturity in the office, or is it merely politically expedient? Do I really have to ask? Besides, does it really take a picture to inflame the Muslim world against us? I mean, what doesn't piss them off?
Meanwhile, the president's continual undermining of our security in other matters - such as granting citizenship to convicted terrorists still perplexes and endangers us.
Another thing that endangers us may be even more insidious than the terrorists themselves. A recent Yahoo report reveals that the majority of teens today don't have any idea who Osama bin Laden was, or why we were so happy to get him. After nearly a decade of war and terrorist hits around the world, young people are clueless as to who the good guys and the bad guys are. Most of the young people revelling in the streets after the announcement were merely exercising another excuse for a party, with no real idea why.
But is that any surprise, really? Too soon after 9-11, the major networks decided not to show the planes hitting the two towers or the Pentagon. The Left went into overdrive to convince those who did take an interest that it was all an "inside job." The rest of the generation born shortly before the day of infamy or since have been so wrapped up in their own self-gratification or the sensuality and single-mided pursuit of fame of American Idol (-worship), Glee, Gossip Girls and other vanities that most truly have no idea of the real world around them. We may have literally protected many of them to death, because their blissful ignorance will get them killed by not taking the threat seriously.
Nevertheless, no one should be deluded into thinking this act of retributive justice will make us any safer. To the contrary, new threats are already appearing from Muslims who can't quite get the hang of "what goes around, comes around." There are groups of Muslim radicals such as Hezbollah which have already set up operations at and across our border. Certainly, there will be more attacks against unsuspecting civilians, unwary military targets, and if they get the opportunity, against our economic centers and infrastructure. But lest you fret too much over the next act of "revenge," keep in mind that they never rest from finding new ways to kill us, so any new threat is merely a mask over the old ones. All the more reason to keep our heads on a swivel, be aware and be as mentally and physically prepared as possible.
Wish I'd said that!
In recent decades, the ACLU has used its so-called "wall" to fight tooth and nail to prevent government sponsorship of the Pledge of Allegiance, memorial crosses, Ten Commandments displays, nativity scenes, Bible displays, and virtually every other acknowdgement of America's religious heritage.
At the same time, it is worthwhile to note that there have been some instances in which the ACLU has endorsed public displays of religion. For example, When New York City Mayor Rudi Giuliani threatened to cut taxpayer funding from the Brooklyn Museum of Art for displaying a painting of the Virgin Mary with cow dung and pictures of female sexual organs pasted all over her body, the ACLU was first in line to defend the display. U.S. District Court Judge Nina Gershon ruled that New York City's elected officials were not allowed to place conditions on the museum's funding.
In another instance, the ACLU offered its support to the taxpayer-funded National Endowment for the Arts, after the agency sponsored an art show featuring "Piss Christ" - an exhibit consisting of a crucifix submerged in a jar of urine.
In the ACLU's myopic world, it appears that the only permissible publicly-funded displays of religion are those which blatantly mock or disparage the Christian faith.

Frauds are US
If you listen to the usual suspects in the media, Cap and Trade legislation is virtually dead. But because of the conspiratorial nature of this malAdministration, we must assume it is only flying below the radar, and will surely come back to haunt us with it's oppressive mandates and skyrocketing prices. Thanks to the hard work of Glenn Beck and his team, it has been learned that if Cap and Trade is eventually passed, it will be the signal that Al Gore, Franklin Raines, and a host of co-conspirators - including Barack Obama - will have foisted what will be the most profitable scam in human history upon the American people, with potential ill-gotten gains approaching an estimated $12 trillion.
If only the likely revenues of that mega-fraud - essentially nothing more than trading for air, which would do absolutely nothing to improve air quality - would be used to pay off the national debt it might be excused. But of course it won't; it will be used largely to line the pockets of the investors and further the schemes of those who aim to conquer the world, all at the expense of virtually every working human, who will wind up paying more for virtually every human activity. Other than Beck and a few conservative bloggers who have echoed him such as Investor's Business Daily, few other news organization (ironically including Fox News) have even mentioned the mega-scam involving the Chicago Climate Exchange (CCX).
Speaking of the ubiquitous Glenn Beck, on Wednesday he had a live audience of legal immigrants who helped him give a passionate and well-informed response to the debate over the Arizona anti-illegals law. That law, sparked by a need to defend their state in the absence of federal enforcement of existing laws, is being used as a battering ram by the radical Left, Mexican infiltrators and agents provocateurs in yet another push to weaken our national unity and security.
The Mexicans have never gotten over their loss of the Southwestern territory, and the Hispano-racists (i.e., La Raza, etc.) aim to reconquer it through whatever means necessary. Why, after turning their own country into one of the world's largest pockets of corruption, they feel it necessary to add more space to their nationalized criminal syndicate, I don't know. Human nature, I guess. It's all the more baffling since they could enjoy nearly unfettered access without resorting to their clownish cavorting and violent protests, and also since we're rapidly becoming nearly as corrupt as they are anyway, it seems like a lot of wasted effort to me.
This is no drill! In the wake of the Deepwater Horizon oil rig disaster - or rather, a week after the fact - President Obama suspended new offshore drilling, as though that will somehow prevent another accident(?) from ocurring. The only thing the freeze seems to accomplish is to give Obama justification to play to his environut lobbyists, while lamely mouthing to the public how much he "really wants to continue to seek energy self-sufficiency." Pardon my skepticism.
Ignore that man behind the curtain! Glenn Beck uncovered another very important piece of the puzzle involving the cabal currently overthrowing over the world's oldest constitutional republic (uh...that would be the United States...of America). He's calling Professor Joel Rogers "the man behind Obama," and he may well be the penultimate puppet-master, if not the man at the top. Rogers is the brain behind the current socialist/Progressive economic model, utilizing the Cloward-Pivin strategy to its fullest potential and unifying many of the various organizations and institutions that have pledged themselves to the overthrow of the United States.
SEAL of approval! US Navy SEAL Matthew McCabe is the third and last of three warriors to be cleared of all charges that he physically abused Ahmed Hashim Abed, a terrorist alleged of being the leader of an incident in Fallujah, Iraq, where four US contractors were ambushed and killed, dragged from their vehicle, and their bodies burned and hung from a bridge. After his capture, Abed claimed that McCabe and fellow SEALs Julio Huertas and Jonathan O'Keefe beat him up while in custody. Three subsequent courts-martial cleared the three sailors after Abed's story fell apart.
I'm delighted in the outcome because it demonstrates that there is still a smidgeon of actual justice left in America; in a military courtroom, of all places. If this case had gone the social justice route that our civilian courts, government, and many churches seem to be pushing these day, the verdict probably would have gone the other way, simply because it would be portrayed as a case of white American military 'oppressing' a poor, misguided Muslim. That's not to say I'd be OK if they'd actually tortured Abed or subjected him to any kind of 'street justice' along the lines that he has been accused of dishing out to others. No...'course not.
Joke of the week. In what I can only describe as irony, Vladimir Putin blew off Obama's offer to send Joe Biden to Moscow to attend the annual communist 'May Day' (May 1st) military parade and celebrations. It appears that Obama just couldn't make it for the big Commu-fest, and wanted Biden to take his place among other socialist (at least, they're honest about it) demogogues. Putin, apparently unable to resist the urge to let Obama know how he feels about our tyrant-boot-licking leader, snubbed the offer as thoroughly as Obama has done to virtually every real ally the US has. Wow; more 'justice' at work!

Real-world Heroes
The Year of our Lord 2009 has so far been marked with heroism, at a time when the American people are fed up with thieves, con artists and selfserving politicians (as if there is a difference) and in dire need of some sort of unselfishness.
First was the dramatic Hudson River crash landing by Capt. "Sully" Sullenberger in January. Sully's clam, coolheaded professionalism, aided by God's grace, saved the lives of 155 people and then all but hid from an admiring public.
Next was the episode with an American commerce ship successfully resisting an attack by Somali pirates; the crew who fought off well-armed intruders, the valiant captain who offered himself in trade for the release of his crew, and the Navy personnel -- especially the SEAL snipers who rescued Captain Richard Phillips with three clean head shots at three different targets on a bobbing lifeboat (with one pirate only visible through a window) in worsening weather. America has always been graced with heroes, most of whom would not call themselves that, and such is the character which sets some folks apart from the rest.
I'll (ugh...this is tough) give the President credit for allowing, if not ordering, the aggressive response to the situation. Frankly, I was concerned he was going to do a Carter and lead to yet another international embarrassment. But, hey, even a stopped clock is right twice a day.
As you might expect, though, the liberal pundits are still clueless. Consider MSNBCs Chris Matthews (you know, the guy who got a "thrill" up his leg over Obama during the campaign), who thinks it was just dumb luck that 3 SEALS made 3 simultaneous head shots from a ship onto a small boat bobbing in the water more than 150 feet away, With the hostage almost directly in the line of fire. Yeah, right; just luck. NOT!
Tea, anyone? Another group of heroes I want to bring attention to is...hundreds of thousands of American people who get it. The Tax Day Tea Parties showed that more and more folks understand the country is changing for the worse, and are getting their game face on and doing something about it. At hundreds of rallies around the United States, organized by ordinary citizens, good people got together to show their willingness to participate, to express their frustration and fears, and to network with one another to correct the problems. The best part is that it was Americans of nearly every political bent: Republicans, Democrates, libertarians, independents and undecideds who want their country back. And -- unlike most liberal demonstrations -- every event was marked by a virtual absence of rude, crude or violent behavior. While they were at times loud, they were peaceful, respectful and enjoyable, in many cases even picking up their own litter afterward. It was truly the "God blessed" part of America, and a refreshing reminder of the character of those who founded this country.
While most politicians are part of the problem, a few are starting to speak out like real leaders instead of party hacks. Texas Governor Rick Perry recently gave a press conference where he reasserted States' Rights under the Tenth Amendment to the Constitution, berating the Obama malAdministration for trying to force states to accept 'stimulus' handouts, which come with a steep price tag.
As you might expect, most of the mainstream media didn't get it, and as they typically do, chose to insult the intelligence of the people standing up for what America used to stand for.
Who's listening to ya? The disenchantment of President Obama's fan base continues to grow as he has reneged on yet another of his left-wing campaign promises. This time the gripe is that he has decided to uphold the Bush Administration's policy of protecting eavesdropping programs. Libs are repeating his campaign pledges for "government accountability and transparency." I guess they haven't been paying much attention as he (I give him the "credit" in the same manner that the left gave George Bush blame for every problem) takes over corporations, encourages congress to violate private contracts, continues the government's drunken spending spree and hikes taxes, all while ignoring public outrage.
Honestly, I think I have to agree with Obama yet again (I can't stand this!!) While leftists and some libertarians want to dismantle our intelligence-gathering apparatus, the fact remains that we have real enemies who are determined to kill thousands and wreak havoc on our nation. And while I don't trust Obama as far as I can throw him, I believe we need to keep those options open, but used most judiciously. That's the problem with tools, whether they be hammers, guns or surveillance devices; they are no better or worse than the human character controlling them. That's why we need to be more discriminating in choosing all our leaders. We've allowed both parties to stack the deck so we don't have control over those choices any more.
Enemy of the State. Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano is standing by a report warning police agencies of "right-wing extremism," comparing angry Americans who are fed up with the mega-abuses of government to radical Islamic, cut-your-head-off terrorists. Anyone who recalls the tragedies of Waco and Ruby Ridge should understand why some Americans might fear their government, but that doesn't automatically mean anyone who expresses concern should have a target painted on them.
Frankly, there probably wouldn't be any need for "right-wing extremists" or Tea Parties if our leaders weren't leading us headlong into the ash heap of history for their own agrandizement. Secondly, according to Judge Andrew Napolitano (no relation; he's a legal analyst for Fox News) the report is poorly written, vague in its sources, and scary in its ramifications.
The Wow factor. I want to mention one more hero: not the type that risks life and limb or changes the world, but one grandma-type British lady who overcame a heavy presupposition of "ordinaryness" and went on to astound a very cynical audience with her hidden singing talent. I'd like to introduce you to Susan Boyle. Watch the judges' (and the audience's) reaction.
