Wish I'd said that!

In recent decades, the ACLU has used its so-called "wall" to fight tooth and nail to prevent government sponsorship of the Pledge of Allegiance, memorial crosses, Ten Commandments displays, nativity scenes, Bible displays, and virtually every other acknowdgement of America's religious heritage.

At the same time, it is worthwhile to note that there have been some instances in which the ACLU has endorsed public displays of religion. For example, When New York City Mayor Rudi Giuliani threatened to cut taxpayer funding from the Brooklyn Museum of Art for displaying a painting of the Virgin Mary with cow dung and pictures of female sexual organs pasted all over her body, the ACLU was first in line to defend the display. U.S. District Court Judge Nina Gershon ruled that New York City's elected officials were not allowed to place conditions on the museum's funding.

In another instance, the ACLU offered its support to the taxpayer-funded National Endowment for the Arts, after the agency sponsored an art show featuring "Piss Christ" - an exhibit consisting of a crucifix submerged in a jar of urine.

In the ACLU's myopic world, it appears that the only permissible publicly-funded displays of religion are those which blatantly mock or disparage the Christian faith.

Getting Al to Chill

Weather Channel founder and meteorologist John Coleman is looking to file suit against Al Gore for fraud. Coleman says he has over 30,000 other scientists worldwide who have signed on with him in an effort to stop the nascent global warming industry from killing any businesses that want to survive the proposed global warming taxes. Just coincidentally, of course, Gore and his friends have positioned themselves to make a huge financial windfall by extorting under the guise of "carbon credits." Want to bet he and they will find some way not to be among the rich getting 'soaked' by the new Geen Order?

A good man for the job... A bit of potentially encouraging news; President Obama has nominated Dr. Francis Collins - the man who headed the Genome Project - to head the National Institute of Health. The upside of this is that Dr. Collins is an outspoken Christian who would undoubtedly bring that ethic to the agency which oversees government scientific research. This would be a reassuring choice, especially in an age where the debate over human cloning and embryonic research isn't far from the surface of social/scientific discourse. Of course, the nomination is probably only a 'straw man' to placate conservatives, and the Senate must still confirm Collins, but this is a rare bit of good news coming from the White House.

And not so good. However, as you might suppose, liberal pundits are practically calling for Collins' head on a platter (oops, that's a biblical analogy) because of his faith. Meanwhile, Obama's new 'science czar' John Holdren. Oh, little ideas, like mass sterilization through drinking water supplies for population control, that single mothers should have their babies taken away from them by the State, a tyrannical deathgrip on all world resources, and surrendering national sovereignty to an armed international force (yeah, how comfortable would you be with UN troops patrolling your street?). Oh, what a happy time we'd have, if only he were in charge! Read any Orwell lately? Shudder!

Go with the flow. One of the problems of government involvement with anything is the complexity that results from way too many hands in the pie. But the Obama plan for healthcare takes that annoying tendency to the nth degree. Curiously, ObamaHealth is at least as diabolical and intertwining as ACORN, the organization that spawned him.

One side of the story. Bill Ayers and other Vietnam War protesters (many of whom now control universities, the media, and our government) have largely succeeded in getting their Anti-American propaganda imbued into the public consciousness over the past 40 or so years. Unfortunately, the opposing viewpoint doesn't usually get the same consideration. As one who lived through that period, and served in the Army during the later stage of the war (1970-73), I can see that while the hippie version does have some truth (most effective propaganda does, although it is usually either exaggerated or limited), it's what they leave out that tells the bigger picture.

A recent program tells the story (with an 'R' rating) of the Marxist-oriented Weather Underground, the violent side of the Students for Democratic Society; domestic terrorists spawned on American college campuses who sowed injury, death, destruction and discontent across the nation, attacking government buildings and colleges, and wounding and killing a few people along the way. Their intent was to destroy the American nation, not to fix it. In their own minds, their aim was noble (in the way youthful rebelliousness always justifies itself), but they were little more than the "useful idiots" Lenin described a half-century earlier.

It's more than coincidental that much of their activity was centered in and around Chicago, and the same can be said for the roots of the insidious takeover we are now witnessing as the new Chicago Mob turns the greatest nation in history into a third-world backwater. The good people of America stopped paying attention, and the enemies of liberty - under the false guise of 'liberation' - slowly robbed future generations of our heritage and more, our responsibilities. They slowly took over the educational system and emasculated it by removing more and more references to our foundational ideology, and by increasingly corrupting the culture.

No nation will ever be perfect, because nations are made up of imperfect, selfish, fallen humans. However, for all the wrongs committed in the name of the United States, the good things we have done or provided more than make up for those mistakes; and this nation could have been made better by now if we had not given ourselves over to evil disguised as 'justice'. When and if the America of our dreams collapses from within, how many centuries will it take for another noble nation to arise, in a world completely subjugated by ideological straitjackets and very real jackboots? There will certainly be no noble nation to rush to our rescue, and millions of Kool-Aid drinkers will awaken one day from their moral and intellectual slumber, and weep.

Crash! Again! Has anyone else noted how much trouble the teleprompter gremlins are causing the Obama team? If the devices aren't being fed too fast or cued in the wrong spot, they just fall apart. It happened again recently when the reflective plate crashed to the floor. Honestly, the president should at least have some idea of what he's talking about so he can bluff his way through the embarrassing moments. Eventually, he has to catch on that the "messiah" rhetoric is just that...rhetorical. Foregoing some miraculous ability to resurrect the teleprompter, maybe he should just have a hard-copy script on the podium as a backup. I'm just sayin'...
