Wish I'd said that!

In recent decades, the ACLU has used its so-called "wall" to fight tooth and nail to prevent government sponsorship of the Pledge of Allegiance, memorial crosses, Ten Commandments displays, nativity scenes, Bible displays, and virtually every other acknowdgement of America's religious heritage.

At the same time, it is worthwhile to note that there have been some instances in which the ACLU has endorsed public displays of religion. For example, When New York City Mayor Rudi Giuliani threatened to cut taxpayer funding from the Brooklyn Museum of Art for displaying a painting of the Virgin Mary with cow dung and pictures of female sexual organs pasted all over her body, the ACLU was first in line to defend the display. U.S. District Court Judge Nina Gershon ruled that New York City's elected officials were not allowed to place conditions on the museum's funding.

In another instance, the ACLU offered its support to the taxpayer-funded National Endowment for the Arts, after the agency sponsored an art show featuring "Piss Christ" - an exhibit consisting of a crucifix submerged in a jar of urine.

In the ACLU's myopic world, it appears that the only permissible publicly-funded displays of religion are those which blatantly mock or disparage the Christian faith.

Advance of the Godless, Part 2

I wasn't planning a Part 2, nor to make this a running religious commentary, but the invasion of the soul destroyers is unrelenting, insidious, and knows no boundaries. Therefore, it is the duty of the faithful to counter these attacks by way of real reason (not the distorted type the atheists claim) and truth. ("For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him the Son of Man also will be ashamed when He comes in the glory of His Father with the holy angels." -- Mark 8:38)

By now you're probably aware of the group of atheists who got permission from the governor of Washington State to erect a placard promoting their empty view of the universe and their inability to sense the human need for connection with our Creator in, of all places, the lobby of the state capitol (http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,461824,00.html), next to a nativity scene and Christmas tree. Of course, these folks have a right to express their shallowness, ignorance and hypocrisy for all to see, but Democrat Governor Christine Gregoire has no obligation to allow them to directly attack Christian beliefs in conjunction with a Christian holiday, using state property to do so. Whether they like it or not, Christmas is a legal holiday and Christianity is still the predominent American religion. For the governor to sanction this hate-filled attack is either an act of moral cowardice or a sign of support for their views, which includes the following statement on one of their placards: "There are no gods, no devils, no angels, no heaven or hell. Religion is but myth and superstition that hardens our hearts and enslaves our minds."

Obviously, they make a lot of dangerous presumptions they can't prove, but proof is never a requisite for a fool. In fact, history shows us the opposite is true, in that the United States - a nation founded by Christians on biblical principles - actually softened peoples' hearts and showed the entire world what freedom is and the success it engenders. Liberty was a vague term and an intangible concept prior to the Declaration of Independence, which pays homage to our Creator.

Apparently, these "enlightened" folks haven't learned that the entire world was engaged in savagery, slavery, decadence and ignorance until Jesus Christ, the Son of God, changed history, slowly working against the tide of darkness. They seem to ignore the fact that it has been secular governments (and misinterpretations of religious tenets) that have caused most of the hundreds of millions of deaths due to war, crime and starvation in just the past hundred years or so. Christianity was the motivating force behind modern hospitals, charities, orphanages, the Red Cross, the Reformation, the saving of Europe from the Muslim invasion, the conversion of Vikings into missionaries and of cannibals into, well, non-cannibals. The founders of most of the branches of modern science were dedicated Christians who developed or led the way for technological wonders because they were inspired by their faith (including Pasteur, Newton, Babbage, Galileo, Da Vinci, Morse, Bell and hundreds of others). For more information on the effect of Christianity on the world, read D. James Kennedy's What If Jesus Had Never Been Born?

I would be surprised if this gang of aspiritual thugs had the cojones to stick their anti-God placard in front of a mosque during Ramadan, or (as Bill O'Reilly opined) in front of a black Christian church on Martin Luther King Day. Unfortunately, it appears that Caucasian, Asian or Arabic Christians are the only religious groups it is socially acceptable to openly attack.

Now there's also the promotion of a blasphemous "gay bible" in New Mexico (http://www.worldnetdaily.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=82520 ), which intentionally turns Scripture on its head, impuning all that Christians, Jews, possibly Muslims and even non-religious but actually intelligent people understand as being the foundations of at least nominal faith for more than half the world's population.

A lot is said about freedom of speech in this country. While many liberals try to muzzle conservative talk radio as "hate-speech", little is said about the spittle foaming from their own mouths as they spew their venom. Liberals always seem to confuse liberty with license, while conservatives equate liberty with responsibility. The publisher of this new non-Bible is pushing trash on the public, which means that more than a few children are also going to be infected with its lies and distortions. That in itself is, or should be, a crime.

The American people, and that includes you -- must stand up against this tidal wave of hatred, ignorance and lies. If we refuse to take up the battle, this nation will continue its plummet downward. It will become a place of ignorance, persecution, fear, apathy, laziness, and violence. It will be a place you will not want to live in (and will be more difficult to live in) nor would you want your children to have to survive in it. The time is rapidly approaching when each of us will have to decide whether we want to be the steamroller, or the road.
